Hulk - Urgent Foster home and/or permanent home needed for this young boy

Take a look at this photo and ask yourself - would you have walked on by?

This is the story of a lady called Patricia who made a friend for life with a dog now named 'Hulk'. When you pop down to the supermarket you are normally running through what you need to buy for dinner, however on this trip Patricia failed to make a shop, rather she saw a very hungry, thirsty and scared dog with extensive wounds to the body and plagued by fleas and ticks.

Her response was to stop and try and help the dog...she was a minority as most just walked on past or made negative comments as to her attempts to catch him. However with patience and a little bribery..
Patricia was able to safely remove him from his street status and took him to a local vet to be looked over.

The ticks and fleas are easily addressed with a pipette - easy fix - in a few days he will enjoy a nice bath all over...in the mean time his wounds require cleaning but nothing complicated and they will quickly heal.

He has tested positive for dilofilaria (heart worm) but as he is so undernourished and weak he cannot start on the medication yet for this, but in a couple of weeks he will be able to start.

Now here is the GOOD news - Hulk has tested negative for leisch which can make a huge difference as people can be a little narrow minded and have reservations for re-homing a leisch dog.(shame on you - think of Chester!). He is friendly if not a little timid with humans, seems to be good with other dogs and cats....so now what we need is at least a FOSTER home for this lad as he cannot stay in the vet much longer.

Unfortunately Patricia is not in a position to have Hulk with her as he starts his journey to a new life - this is her 3rd rescue by herself so we felt that she deserved support and help to find Hulk a place to recover and eventually a new home.

So here is the deal - if you or you know of someone who is in a position to foster or who have thought of fostering - then please please consider Hulk. By agreeing to foster Hulk you are not committing to have him for the rest of his life (unless you decide you want to keep him!) - it is a temporary home we are looking for where he can get recuperate and learn to trust humans again. There is NO FINANCIAL obligation if you foster Hulk - there is a guardian angel who will be covering any medication and food that he requires, also any dog paraphernalia such as kennel, lead, bowl, bedding etc can be given on loan during the foster period. All we need is a safe environment with patience and love to be given.  We will all be actively looking for a new home for Hulk while he is in foster care to make sure that he has his happy ending.

Please help find Hulk a foster home - he has to leave the vet and the safety of his cage there. He is being evicted!

If you can help in any way then please contact Patricia Teodoro - you can call her on 962 737 263, PM her on Face Book or email her p.teodoro11@gmail.com

Chester's Road to Recovery - Part 4 - Now all I need is a home!

Chester wants you to know - he is ready for his next adventure in a new home!
Chester is now being promoted in the UK for a potential new home, fingers crossed someone will be able to see past the fact that he has leisch and will require a couple of tablets a day for the rest of his life. I have 2 of my own with leisch, also rescue and they are doing really well.

So sales points of Chester - he is enthusiastic and young (only 1.5 years max), wanting to learn and loves to play. He is quite a large dog although only 24 kg at the moment, his bark is fierce so he makes a great guard. He LOVES the car and going for walks. I just wish I had bought a new harness sooner - both human and hound are much happier with our walks now - he is strong!
He loves other dogs and wants to play - whether with another dog, with a toy or hunting lizards! He is respectful of Ziggy my cat but my cat is dog savvy!

So this is a plea for people to consider offering Chester as home - I will leave you with some photos of Chester relaxing and enjoying life - mindless of the fact that he is not yet home!
Chester is the one on the left, hanging with the boys! It is a hard life at my place!
He looks indignant that i have disturbed his sleep!
Aah - he is a young baby boy that is quite immature really! He is submissive to my older ridgeback, he wants to please humans - so he is very attentive. Go on someone - Give Chester a chance! If you would like to give Chester a home then please contact me on Facebook   - or leave a comment on this blog! :)

Missie, Boneca do Gramacho

This little girl was found at the Gramacho Golf Course, near Carvoeiro. She was pregnant with dead babbies in her belly, but she was saved in time by Margarida Cardoso and some friends of hers - Marta and Ana. She was sterilised and is now a healthy and beautiful podengo. Missie is around 2 years old and weighs 12 kilos. She is microchipped, but when the owner was contacted, he claimed not being the owner, so officially she is an abandoned dog.
It is urgent that Missie finds a home, as she is not wanted at the Golf Course and she has already been taken to Silves by unpleasant people, but somehow she managed to return to the same place.

If you would like to help, please contact Margarida on
962 984 530 or margcardoso@gmail.com
If you cannot help, please pass the word on.
Thanks a lot!

Chester's road to recovery - lovely - lively & lanky!

So what is new in the world of Chester...he has finished now his tick fever medication and is still slowly putting on weight....however he will be a couple of kilos lighter as of Thursday as the lad will be castrated! I am hoping that this will calm him down and also stop him acting like a massive tom cat around my plant pots!

I am also hoping it will calm him down when playing with Freya as he seems to think that she is a lamb chop! However, she holds her own and loves the attention!

As mentioned in a previous blog - Chester has a monster nose and is a hunting dog - I have pegged him as not perhaps good with cats....BUT .I may have been hasty, as I think when armed with a pump action water pistol and a waggy finger - you can teach such a hound that the cat is out of bounds. I am pleased with the progress Chester has made and even leave him loose unsupervised with the cat out in the grounds...he will learn!

I decided it was time to reclaim my corner where the dogs can be shut out of the area for the summer - in the last 7 months it has been a rescue/foster dog holding area! - nice furniture with no chance of dog hairs, chewing etc -  I can sit back and have a moment without a dog deciding to either lick me, jump on me or knock my beer over with its tail! So Chester had to move into the big dog run at night....so far so good - however when I moved his bed which was on a pallet - I received the same surprise as before when moving dog beds.....a mouse had made its home under his bed! And there I was saying he was a hunter! Chester has also made a break through as he has discovered the delight of sitting on the doggy outside furniture - made himself comfortable.......

You can see my point about the none doggy furniture and seating area - this is what happened to my last lot of furniture - so the dogs have a full suite of their own!

I am looking for a home for Chester - he is an extremely happy dog and a formidable guard....I have just had EDP round to read the meter - I read it and passed it through the gate on a piece of paper as he was too scared to come in! I will therefore ask for people to consider giving him a loving home as he will reward you so many million times over....I will leave you for another period with what is now Chester's signature pose!

Ben - young dog for responsible adoption - Lagos Area

Ben was abandoned near a cat shelter, in the Lagos area, with two strings in the neck, quite battered and scraggy. He is a very friendly, energetic and obedient young dog. We believe he had owners, because he is very polite and friendly.
He deserves a happy life with a good family who would be able and willing to love him.
The cat shelter is unable to receive dogs, so Ben is in a temporary home.
Ben is vaccinated and dewormed.

GINA - beautiful little cat looking for a loving home

This is Gina! She appeared in the caravan area/park, near the football stadium, in Lagos a couple of months ago. She has the ear tip, symbol of sterilisation, so we presume she came from another colony or he was dumped in that area.

Gina is now very sociable and cries for attention all the time. She was fed and taken care by Gitta and her husband, who lived in the auto-caravan where Gina found shelter in the cold months of winter. She slept underneath the caravan, we presume near the engine, where it is warm.
The problem is that Gitta and her husband had to go back to Germany, since they have been living here for several months already, but they could not leave Gina behind on her own. Although Gitta loves cats, she has an allergy problem and she cannot have direct contact with them or keep them inside. So, Gina is now in a foster home until she finds a good home.
If you would care to help Gina, please email me or Gitta. In alternative you can call me on 917232339.
Thanks a lot!
